Embrace the Power of the SUN, Morgan County

Sunny Plains Energy Center
Sunny Plains Energy Center, LLC is pleased to introduce a proposed 300 – 450 MW solar electricity generation facility and co-located 200 - 400 MW battery energy storage facility in Morgan County, Colorado. Together, these facilities can deliver many positive benefits to both the local community and region.

This project is both an economic development opportunity for greater Morgan County and a significant revenue development opportunity for the local tax jurisdictions that deliver key services to residents.

The project will also benefit regional electricity consumers and the environment by generating clean, low-cost renewable energy and providing vital backup power that increases electric grid resilience and reduces outages.

Benefits of Solar Electricity Generation and Battery Energy Storage Systems
-
New property tax revenue for Morgan County tax jurisdictions
 -
Direct and indirect economic impacts from project spending on goods, services, and wages, primarily during construction
 -
Requires minimal water consumption during construction and operations
 -
Will not increase local traffic during operations or create a burden on municipal and education services (e.g. - schools, hospitals, nursing homes, etc.)
 -
Clean, renewable energy has a reduced impact on the environment compared to traditional options
 -
Provides a low-cost, abundant, and sustainable generation resource that can help stabilize electricity costs
 -
Offsets carbon emissions from fossil fuel power plants and contributes to the diversification of the region’s electricity grid
 -
Quiet renewable electricity generation with no emissions
 -
Energy storage facility provides flexibility, resilience, and other benefits to the electric grid

LOCATION
Sunny Plains Energy Center is located about 6 miles southeast of Fort Morgan on land historically used for cattle grazing.
PROJECT FOOTPRINT
The area of the proposed project site is approximately 3,500 acres and the project is expected to have a footprint of approximately 2,600 acres.
TRANSMISSION
The project will serve the Colorado power grid by interconnecting to Xcel Energy’s new 345 kV Canal Crossing Substation.
